Mývatn Open
Mývatn Open – Horses on Ice is a unique event worldwide. The surroundings and the nature of the competition create a unique athmosphere. This year the competition is on the 22. and 23. of February. An event you dont want to miss!

Orkugangan e. Energy Race
The Energy Race is Iceland's most popular cross-country ski race. With its 60 km from Mývatn to Húsavík it is the longest ski race in Iceland and a point earning part of the Iceland race series Íslandsgangan. The race usually takes place middle of April.

Mývatn Pilgrimage
The Mývatn Pilgrimage is an annual event on Good Friday. It starts with a service in Reykjahlíð church and a 36 km walk around lake Mývatn afterwards.

Mývatn Marathon
The Mývatn Marathon is a regular 42 km run around Lake Mývatn in a stunning surroundings. Those who prefer to run shorter distances can run a half marathon, 10 km and 3 km runs. The marathon usually takes place the first Saturday in June, in 2015 on 6th of June.

National Accordion Festival
The annual Accordion celabration takes place at Laugar, the first weekend of July. Whether you're just looking for a great way to spend an afternoon or a music fan looking to hear live accordion music the National Accordion Festival is your event.

Mærudagar (e. Húsavík Candy Days)
The Húsavík Candy Days (e. Mærudagar) are a family and culture festival and are held the last weekend in July every year. It is a town festival with a huge number of events such as a parade, bonfire, ram show, playground for the kids and outdoor concerts.

Dettifoss Trail Run
The Dettifoss Trail Run is every year in August in the Vatnajökull National Park. The stunning surroundings, including Jökulsá canyon and Ásbyrgi make this run an unforgettable experience. Distances are 33 km, 21 km and 13 km and the run takes place on August 8th.

Meet the Icelandic Horse
The second weekend of August, the horse breeders and horsemen of Northeast Iceland meet at Einarsstadir, just few minutes drive away. This is the right place to see lots of beautiful horses!

Sléttuganga: Guided Hike along Melrakkaslétta
Hiking from Raufarhöfn along the magic Melrakkaslétta plain with all its lakes and rich birdlife, along the valley Blikalónsdalur, where they say there is an underground river. Most of the route is flat, old trails, a nice walk. Takes place mid August.
